SINPORT 2014 will be the biggest economic event of the year in San Pedro, Côte d’Ivoire, home of the world’s largest cocoa port. This conference, which will take place from May 7 to 9, 2014, will gather leaders in business and government with the shared objective of transforming the region’s economy and the port’s role.

Although the port of San Pedro is famed for its exports of coffee and cocoa, it also sits in a mineral rich region, whose mines are booming.  As a result, San Pedro is fast becoming the most important mineral export point in the sub-region, serving not only Côte d’Ivoire, but also neighbouring Liberia, Mali and Guinea.

Due to ample road and rail connections, linking the port with key population and mining centres, the Port of San Pedro is the most cost-effective point of entry for goods and services destined for the mining companies and the region’s population.  As such, it has become a significant distribution centre serving western Côte d’Ivoire and its neighbours.

As the regional economy gathers steam, its energy needs are increasing.  To support this demand, PETROCI, the Autonomous Port of San Pedro, and its partners, are investing US$60,000,000 to develop a state-of-the-art refined fuel terminal at the port.

At SINPORT 2014, participants will gain a clear understanding of plans for the port’s future.  The conference will also provide ample opportunities to network with the leaders driving San Pedro’s transformation and the 300 exhibitors, all of whom are actively involved in the port and its associated services.  Participants will have the inside track on opportunities to capitalise on the exciting economic prospects developing in and around the Port of San Pedro.

The Port of San Pedro was inaugurated by Côte d’Ivoire’s founding father, President Félix Houphouët-Boigny on December 4, 1972.  Since 1972, traffic at the port has grown exponentially.  In 2013, the Port of San Pedro received 533 ships, carrying 4.32 million tonnes of goods.  In addition, coffee and cocoa shipments reached 690,518 tonnes.
